I'm Darrell Larose, an Ottawa-based photographer, designer and lifelong photography enthusiast. My journey began around 1970, when I discovered the magic of the darkroom and joined the Camera Club of Ottawa. More than five decades later, photography remains a way for me to explore the world, experiment with technology and share the moments that catch my eye.
My background spans traditional film and darkroom work, large-format cameras, digital photography and image editing. I began using Photoshop in 1995, and I enjoy the creative possibilities that emerge when photography, digital imaging and graphic design meet.
My photographic interests are varied. Aviation and airshows are recurring favourites, alongside fireworks, nature, architecture, events and portraits. Whether I'm following aircraft in flight, capturing the changing light over Ottawa, or building a sequence from a burst of frames, I enjoy the combination of technical problem-solving and creative timing that photography offers.
Over the years, I've worked in government photography units, professional photo laboratories, photographic retail and freelance assignments. I've also shared my experience with fellow photographers through the Camera Club of Ottawa, where I was honoured with life membership. In 2021, the Canadian Association for Photographic Art recognized my long-standing contribution to the club and local photographic community with its Club Service Award.
